Rick Steves’ Travel to Iran

Rick Steves documented his travel to Iran in 2008. His mission was to film a travel TV show in that country to help build understanding between Iran and the US and to defuse tension that could be leading to war.
It turns out that the Islamic Republic of Iran actually wanted the publicity, so he threw together a proposal for a TV show about the people and culture of Iran, and after months of negotiations visas were granted along with government support for the mission. The 10 day shoot in Iran would take Rick and his crew to the cities of Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz and Persepolis. According to Steves, travelers to Iran must be prepared to pay for everything in cash. Due to the 26-year-old American embargo on the country, Western credit cards don't work in Iran and there are no ATMs for foreigners.
